Hallelujah!

I can’t think of a better day to start a blog about grace than Easter Sunday! It is, after all, the greatest picture of amazing grace. Today in Church the choir sang a song called Resurrection Medley and these lines really stuck out for me:

Sin, where are your shackles? Death, where is your sting? Hell has been defeated. The grave could not hold the King!

When I first thought about those lines as I was practicing the song, I got to thinking about how the grave could not hold the Lord. And it struck me, of course it couldn’t, He was without sin. Death is a punishment for sin, and Jesus took upon himself our sin and died in our place, but the grave could not hold the only One who was without sin. And this is indeed a truth to celebrate! But later, I realized I hadn’t taken the thought deep enough, and these verses came to mind:

But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ – by grace you have been saved – and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus

Ephesians 2:4-7

And here is amazing grace: Christ has joined us with himself. We have died with him, we have risen with him, we have ascended with him. Because of his grace, because of his great love for us, his victory is our victory! As another song says, “I live, I live, because He is risen!”

Easter, Resurrection Sunday, is a day to shout Hallelujah!! Because he is risen, I have hope. Because he is risen, I have victory over sin. Because he is risen, I have reason to rejoice. Because he is risen, I live. Hallelujah!
